On June 23, 2010, DOUBLES Beach Volleyball made its debut with its inaugural invitational event, at Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights, Washington. Our first event ushered in a new era for women's professional beach volleyball. It featured eight teams in a "single knockout" tournament competing for a total purse of $14,000. The DOUBLES "single knockout" format requires each team to bring their best game because if you lose, you are out. To make the challenge even tougher, the quarterfinal matches consisted of a single game to 15 points. The semi-final matches were best of three games to 21 points. With the winners advancing to the best of three games to 21 points Championship round.

The evening before, the pros conducted a meet-and-greet in the Casino's ultra modern sports bar complete with live television interviews on local news outlets. Then the announcement the pros were anxious to hear, the pairings for the tournament. Event day started with a clinic conducted by the pros for many youth players from the Spokane region. To say the clinic was a big hit with the young players would be a huge understatement.

The Northern Quest Invitational began at 4pm and continued with non-stop action until its conclusion with the Championship match under the lights much to the delight of the large and appreciative crowd. The eight teams invited to compete in the DOUBLES inaugural event were:

Chara Harris (FL) / Megan Wallin (FL)
Brooke Sweat (FL) / Kristen Batt (FL)
Rasa Virsilaite (IL) / Erin Gray (IL)
Stacy Loyal (CA) / Cindie Boosin (CA)
Brooke Viegut (MN) / Swen-Marie Germann (MN)
Jennifer Sharp (CA) / Laurel Miller (CA)
Heather Evans (CA) Abra Amwake (CA)
Traci Morin (CA) / Tarin Keith (CA)

The competition was intense from start to finish and in the end, Brooke Sweat and Kristen Batt defeated Chara Harris and Megan Wallin to claim the Championship and the $5,000 first prize. The entire event was televised as four, one-hour programs on FSN (FOX Sports) Northwest.

All programs in their entirety are available on our website at the "Video" tab.
